What you are getting yourself into with a Barbet puppy!
A Barbet puppy is on the go more often than they are asleep.
Puppies can create havoc with your routine, so be flexible because you will need to be there to do things with your Barbet puppy when they are ready. Puppies are not very good at waiting!
Puppies are hard work and will definitely keep you busy!
If you expect to meet the needs of your Barbet puppy quickly and have the rest of the day to yourself, then you are sadly mistaken!!
They chew, bite, jump up, dig, and do lots more things that you might not want them to do. If you ignore them, they will make their own fun. If you don’t teach them, their education will be compromised and they will go through life based on what they’ve learnt for themselves.
Sharing your life with a dog is truly wonderful, but they do not come ready made.
Puppies need bringing up with love and care. They need time and understanding for their personalities to develop. They need good parenting to ensure they grow up with self-confidence and resilience, able to deal with the world as they become adults. And your job as a parent never ends. So, this is the reality check!
A Barbet puppy is part of the family, they are to be treated with the same nurture, care, and love as any other member of the family. You need to have the time to teach, guide, and spend time with your puppy for a good part of the day, every day, for the rest of their life.
This is the breed for you if;
You are not out for more than 4 hours at a time on a regular basis.
You are happy for your dog to sleep in the same room as you.
If you don’t embrace a perfectly clean home.
If you don’t mind being wet a good portion of the time!
If you are happy to be active with your Barbet.
If you are fine with ongoing grooming duties.

You can be flexible, as routines go to pot with a puppy.
Your strategy is to guide and support them when they are doing things sensible, and when they are not.
You can get up in the night for however long it takes as they learn to toilet outside.
Provide proper nutrition to support your puppy’s body and mind through their life.
You promise to keep in touch with us.
You and your family will have our support throughout your puppy’s life. We have a wealth of knowledge which we will happily share with you.
