Raising Barbet Puppies

Our Barbet puppies are raised with responsive, compassionate parenting.

Connection, collaboration, and friendship.

It means to be present with our puppies. To nurture and guide. To teach in line with natural development. To embrace and support their individual personalities.

Mum and Dad

It is so important for puppies to have mum around right up until they leave to live with their new families.

Willow will teach her puppies many things, providing love, support, education, and play.

Remy is our puppies dad, so he is also part of parenting, and will be involved as he and Willow wishes.

Being part of the family is a positive experience for all of us. We are all involved in bringing up our puppies providing a loving, nurturing, and safe environment.

Home and Garden

Our puppies first weeks are in the whelping box.

As they become more active and aware of their surroundings, they naturally start to explore a bigger area. The space is opened up to accommodate this natural development. As they grow, they explore more of the home at their own pace.

As they become more confident, they start to investigate outside, and so it then won’t be long before they are running around the home and garden!

We have beds, blankets, and comfy places in lots of places for Remy, Willow and the puppies to rest and sleep. Puppies play with different types of toys inside, and a lovely playground in part of the garden for them to explore when they go outside.

Toilet Training

At around two weeks old puppies start to move away from their sleeping area to toilet, so at this point we introduce the toileting area so there is a clear divide between the sleeping area and the toileting area. As they become more mobile the toileting pads are replaced with real grass trays.

Once they go outside, they will naturally toilet on the grass which is already familiar.

Feeding

Our Barbet puppies wean naturally.

They start with a combination of milk from mum and goats milk which is gentle on the stomach.  The next step is to add a small amount of soft food.

They progress to more food and less mum’s milk as they grow.

Our dogs and puppies eat a home cooked diet that meets  all their nutritional needs.

Enrichment

This comes in many different forms.

Sights, sounds, and textures are what most people think of, but true enrichment is also about quality of life.

Our puppies grow up in a calm and stable environment where they feel safe, loved, and cared for.

There are plenty of choices, so each puppy can relax or play in line with their personality and how they feel most comfortable.

Visitors

We welcome visitors once our puppies are four weeks old.

Parents of our puppies are welcome to visit as often as they wish.

We also have friends and family to visit so the puppies meet a range of different people.
