What’s in a Name?

You might think it is easy to come up with a name for something but often it is not.

When considering our breeding identity, we have to find a name that means something to us. But more than this, it needs to convey our vibe, a sense of who we are.

Then we look at visually portraying our name to get our ethos across. How our chosen name and logo is viewed by potential parents makes the difference between them getting what we are about or thinking this is not for them. First impressions do matter! And they matter to both parties. We want to hear from those who understand where we are coming from, this is a first step in getting to know someone who may become a parent to one of our puppies.

It took many walks filled with thoughts and suggestions before we settled on Esprit Amitié Barbets. It means spirit friendship, and as soon as I suggested it, I found it resonated in my soul. It describes so well how we see our Barbets and the relationship we have with them. We are looking for parents who feel the same.

We take the same care when we choose names for our puppies. We have plenty of experience naming kittens, sometimes a name just comes to us and we know straight away that it is right, sometimes it needs more thought to find the one that fits perfectly for who that kitten is. But there is one more thing to do. Once we have found the perfect name for each little one, we then add something to give it a sparkle. We named one of our kittens Monty, and the sparkle we added? His official name was Magical Mr Monty.

So, when you ask, ‘What’s in a name?’ the answer is a lot of love and thought to give each puppy a name that reflects who they are.
